I’ve not gotten heavily into Black Books as others. I need to give it another try. I thought I had As time goes by in there. Definitely up there for me. I know. I was a bit oddly sad when their relationship ended. Honestly it’s one of the few celebrity breakups I was quite sad about it.

My situation at the current moment

This is only the second time I’ve skipped almost full chapters of a fic because seriously the reality of the angst was present at the start. You did not have to hit me over the head with it ….while driving a tank yelling through a bullhorn that “JOHN WATSON IS VERY SAD.”

I get it.

I don’t need these shoes….

But I want them something fierce.

OMG I HAVE READ THAT KIND OF FIC, EGAD! Same here, I have to skim ahead or die of crying my eyes out!

See that kind of fic doesn’t make me sad at all. It exhausts me. You want me to feel for your character’s woes not make me annoyed by them. Eventually , though I love the character, I just lose empathy. So the writer achieves the opposite of what they were doing with all that overwrought angst. And my God it’s lazy writing too. It’s so fuckin lazy. It’s indulgent. It’s just….heh. I respect and love fanfic writers but sometimes I wish they had an editor to be honest with them and tell them “enough” when it is very much enough after the first million sentences of woe.
