All 64k of you are party poopers. I love it. I love that people are so overwhelmed by how awesome this movie is that despite the fact that the creators aren’t there to see it, the people still feel the need to applaud. It’s bloody lovely. The theater experience is also often a shared experience. We as a group laugh together, feel sadness together, and applaud together. It’s just another moment in which we all come together and it’s just wonderful.

At work they fired a nice, old man today. He has been with the company since it started. The writing was on the wall but for a long time it seemed like things just might work out. Turns out they didn’t. So he got up for his quick meeting with the big boss and then they came to pack up his things. They “walked him” to the security guard desk to turn in his badge. Then the big boss came to our department and said he was gone. We asked if he could say goodbye or didn’t want to. “He was not given the opportunity,” he said.
An email went out announcing his departure. Then everyone started flooding into our department to ask just what went on. We only knew a few things. We shared some facts. We kept a few others. A person who happened to see him walk out confirmed that he was tearing up when he left.
And I cried. I cried because that could all be us one day. Thrown out and forgotten like we were nothing. I didn’t particularly love that gentleman. We weren’t best friends. In fact we clashed twice in recent memory. But he was a human being. We walked the same carpet. We knew the same worries.
Add on top of all that I am up for promotion again. It would be his job that I’d be taking. It’s more money but more hassle. I feel like I should take it because I am getting older and I need to shit or get off the pot with regards to this job. Soooo FUCK ME. I don’t know. I feel weird about the whole thing.
So ya know…weird, weird, weird.

But if you want to keep your private contact info more private, you can telephone your representatives directly. That’s a good thing— phone is better than email and petitions. Be tenacious. My reps’ phone lines were hammered and I kept being hung up on.

Actually, what happened to me after I submitted my phone number was:
1. This group called ME
2. Then they patched me through to MY senator’s office (like an old-fashioned phone operator, except it was automatic)
3. I was then able to leave a message for my Senator :)
THEY LITERALLY DO ALL THE WORK FOR YOU. IT IS AWESOME.
