When it comes down to it, I feel like that’s why this show works so well as an exploration of adolescence and gender dynamics. Because it’s devoted to kind humor, it makes a space in which these kids can explore who they are and who they are going to be when they grow up without us as an audience feeling worried for them.
I’m never afraid that Tina will discover an amazing talent only for it to be laughed away by her family or for it to be retconned out of the show an episode later. When Gene dresses up as a woman, I never cringe and think that Bob is about to say something degrading toward women or tell Gene to “act like a man.”
As an audience member, I feel safe. I feel like it’s going to be okay. And that gives the show license to do more interesting things with the development of these characters. Which is surely a good thing. In a world where the typical teenage drama on the CW stars men and women in their mid to late twenties, and the only other well known animated teens are from Family Guy, Tina and Gene are worth their weight in gold. Moreso is the writing team who are able to write them, and write them well.
So yeah. Bob’s Burgers is back. You should probably watch it.

He’s created many hilarious TV moments like eating the world’s hottest pie, losing his shit over grumpy cat, the conversation about the long stabby thing - and there was also that time where he told a bad pun Dalai Llama joke TO the Dalai Llama.
Well today he revealed that (as a comment on sexism in the media) he has been wearing the same suit on air every day for a year with nobody noticing. He started doing it deliberately after seeing the backlash that his female co-hosts would constantly get over their appearances.
"No one has noticed; no one gives a shit. But women, they wear the wrong colour and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there’s thousands of tweets written about them. Women are judged much more harshly and keenly for what they do, what they say and what they wear… I’ve worn the same suit on air for a year - except for a couple of times because of circumstance - to make a point. Benedict had really good things to say in that article btw. The interviewer/writer was shitty.
Interview subjects don’t have control over how the interviewer ends up writing the story, sad to say. Nowhere did I see Benedict say anything disrespectful about his fans. It was the writer, and the writer alone. That’s where the anger and disappointment should be directed.
tbh i think that is where the anger is directed. so far I’ve seen 100% of people pissed off at the writer/mag and none at Benedict. Though to be fair if they were upset then they’d have somewhat of a right. He did pose for that photo. No he doesn’t have discretion over the article but unless he’s been taking stupid pills then he couldn’t have thought that the article attached was going to be “benedict’s fans are super respectful.”
