ayeshakhurram: I am speechless. I am speechless that two hours...

ayeshakhurram:

I am speechless. I am speechless that two hours away from where I live, over a hundred and forty children have died. I am speechless. My brothers, my sisters. They aren’t with us anymore, and I am speechless. I can’t tell you how much I’ve cried today, I can’t tell you how depressed, disgusted, sad, horrified and shocked I am at this act of terrorism in the name of ‘God’.

It’s numbing to even try and think about what the mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters feel like right now - I can’t even imagine what it’s like, to send your child to school asking him to do his very best on his mid year, telling him you believe in him, telling him not to leave a single question empty. He left the world instead.

Please don’t think we aren’t important because we aren’t from the well known Western countries. Please don’t let the lives lost be defined by race, language, nation. Please don’t think we deserve this because our oppressors and us, we share a religion - because if these terrorists are ‘muslims’, then I am not. (And believe me when I tell you they’re not. They don’t know anything about Islam, because if they did they would hesitate to use harsh words, let alone guns.)

It takes two seconds to make a prayer. It takes two seconds to spread the word. It takes two seconds to make someone see that the oppressed and oppressors are different, even if they share a religon.

I hope you will remember that little, innocent children and teachers did not ask for this. I hope you will remember that a teacher got burned alive trying to save the students. I hope you will remember that raising your voice against evil is the first step to eliminate it from our society.

"Oh my Lord, shut it down, here is the greatest moment in the history of C-SPAN: A (very Southern) mama called into one of their shows to yell at the guests. Not because she disagrees, but because the guests are brothers and both her sons and she is sick and tired of their shit."

“How many women had to hit that glass before the first crack appeared? How many cuts did they get, how many bruises? How hard did they have to hit the ceiling? How many women had to hit that glass to ripple it, to send out a thousand hairline fractures? How many women had to hit that glass before the pressure of their effort caused it to evolve from a thick pane of glass into just a thin sheet of splintered ice? I picked my spot in the glass and called it my target”

It happened quite slowly and yet all at once. A few auditions fell through. His parents died. His flat was robbed. His girlfriend left and took all their friends with her. He was left with nothing but his pride. And even that was wavering as he stepped onto the corner. Could he even be considered a rent!boy at his age?

Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked for the Holidays - 2004

In 1996, at an in-studio interview here in Detroit to promote their joint appearance at the Holiday Planetfest at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Barenaked Ladies teamed up with Sarah McLachlan for a duet medley of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” and “We Three Kings”. Both artists would later follow with full-length holiday albums. The duet would be released (after much demand and radio airplay) on BNL’s 2004 album.

southpauz:

Cameras continually flashed, officers cheered (mostly chuckled and promised eachother to trade photos later), reporters asked questions, children begged to be on stage, and Sherlock was absolutely trying his very best not to throw himself at the crowd and unleash the most brutal of deductions.

"Quit twitching, Sherlock. Can you stay still for one bloody second so we can take a proper picture and get this over with?” John whispered through his fake smile, sending a minuscule glare towards Sherlock before looking back at the crowd of cameras.

Sherlock continued fidgeting, right eye twitching in irritation, and whispered over the clicks of cameras and laughter of witnesses, “I feel absolutely foolish right now, John. This is ridiculous. I feel ridiculous. I look ridiculous! Why are we doing this, and why did I have to be the bloody reindeer?”

"Maybe you shouldn’t solve a crime that saves Christmas." At that point, annoyingly (in Sherlock’s opinion), John’s fake smile became genuine. Eyes sparkling with mirth, he whispered “Maybe your antlers have to do with that deerstalker you hate so much.”

"Maybe you’re Santa because everyone knows you’ll become as fat as Mycroft in your old age," Sherlock briefly sneered before returning to his painful smile.

"And you’ll still love me" John declared confidently, smile softening and eyes twinkling in amusement.

"Hmm."

Eyes connecting, Sherlock and John shared a brief not-so-secretive smile, silently wishing one another a happy Christmas amongst the cameras, reporters, children, and (still laughing) New Scotland Yarders.
