I think the thing is I’ve ben reading fanfics since I was 13 and at the time I couldn’t say “I’m a mature adult and can choose my sexuality” I wasn’t old enough to tell everyone to fuck off, there was a lot of things I couldn’t do. I still can’t do. But I love fanfics. Fanfics changed my world. They made me cry and want to die, they broke me and put me together again, they sustained me when nothing else could. I LOVE fanfics.
No no. You don’t understand. i love them. i love the lack of exposition. I love the smut. I love the lack of smut. I love that fanfics will take you as far as you can go. Because that’s the thing with fanfics. They don’t stop.
Fanfics don’t care about limits. They don’t care about what’s forbidden.
Fanfiction is transgression. Always. Every day. And it doesn’t matter if you’re 14 and beginning or 60 and a published author. You’re here for the same thing. the same couple. The same relationship. You’re here to make people happy and isn’t that beautiful?
Fanfictions are the most wonderful things ever invented and never ever forget that.

i knew there was a reason i liked maisie.
This is rad, but do you know what’s not? That people are using this to put women against each other. They’re acting as if Maise was attacking or going at Emma, when that’s not at all the case. They’re acting as if she “slammed” her, when Maise was actually much more tactful and mild in her comments than that. It’s amazing and insightful of Maise to point out that Emma’s feminism was a very basic, simplified, and first-world approach. Maise points out that while the issues and stigma that women face in the US and the UK need addressing and repair, feminism ought to be more wide-reaching, especially for women in circumstances- countries, classes, etc- that are far less privileged than woman who easily identify with Emma and Maise in terms of gender identity, ethnicity, class, and so on.
Emma Watson has used her fame in a positive way: she’s acknowledged her platform as a public figure and is using it to talk about something extremely, extremely important. Like Maise and many of us have pointed out, however, her presentation on what feminism is and what it should concern itself with was too watered down to be a potent and life-changing as we need it to be.
But please, please, please refrain from falling into the trap of the media. Go google this and you’ll immediately see articles that are pitting them against one another. And that’s of no shock, the media loves to see women tearing each other down. Don’t let that be the story you’re accepting or perpetuating. Maise was respectful, let’s do the same. I’m sick of allowing the press to tear women down. Let’s emphasize that whats happening her is healthy criticism meant to build one another- and all those affected by gender inequality, bias, and bigotry- up.

Her Tumblr posts were tragic, but her Reddit posts pose serious questions about how she was treated.I think that everybody interested in the Leelah Alcorn story needs to read this, because it is proof positive that her parents were lying on CNN and her situation was even worse than the suicide note implied.

Gabby tho! This show’s ads make it look like it’s gonna be all melodrama but imma watch the pilot and tweet in support.
I think this show has some great potential and I am so excited for it. I can’t think of the last time a black drama made it onto Network TV. It’s gotten some great advertising and support. The development also seems to have been fairly smooth considering all the elements of the show. At the end of the day I think they’re capitalizing on some popular elements of recent dramas and I think it could be a hit. Great actors and a decent premise. I’m all in.

Arizona Threatens To Take Away School District’s Funding Over A Course On Hip-Hop:
As one of his final actions as head of Arizona’s public schools, outgoing Superintendent John Huppenthal (R) announced on Friday that the Tucson Unified School District could be stripped of some of its funding in March unless it abandons courses that allegedly violate the state’s ban on “ethnic studies.” Though Friday was Huppenthal’s last day in office, his replacement, Diane Douglas, is a Republican with close ties to several conservative organizations.
Huppenthal reportedly objects to “an introductory course on hip-hop from the African-American perspective and lyrics from the rock band Rage Against the Machine.” The legal basis for his threat to deny funding to the school district if they do not suspend the courses he finds objectionable is a 2010 law placing several limits on what kinds of instruction may be offered in Arizona. That law bans course work that promotes “resentment toward a race or class of people,” that is “designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group,” or that advocates “ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”

Thanks, Arizona, for making Texas look good. What’s wrong with a course the African-American kids might find interesting? In fact, other kids might want to get “hip” too. The standard curriculum emphasizes Dead White Guys. Who have made some great art—but why ignore everybody else? And why not offer the “specific” classes to anybody interested?
"Resentment" is interesting wording, really gives that law the flavor of appeasing the majority while pretending to be progressive.

Now instead of sneaky nipple teasing all I can think about is John reaching inside Sherlock and taking hold of his heart while Sherlock tells him to “be careful” because it’s a fragile little thing and he can’t handle it getting broken:(

… proof that Sherlock’s heart was taken in Series One. I think it’s interesting that we never actually see him giving back this phone in particular. Can this be paralleled with Irene’s phone? Is there a write up i can read? THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS. Sherlock’s vulnerability is a weakness of mine.

THIS IS LESS THAN 10 MINUTES INTO THE EPISODE, NOT 15 SECONDS AFTER HE WALKS INTO THE ROOM.
If we’re still running with this metaphor, technically john have sherlock his heart in the very beginning. Literally, his first lines to sherlock were “here, use (take) mine (my heart)”

5 “Deleted Scenes” from “Joss Whedon: The Biography” by Amy Pascale
Amy has very kindly provided Whedonesque with five deleted scenes from her soon to be released biography of Joss Whedon.
1. Joss doesn’t drink coffee, he drinks Typhoo tea and is very particular about how it is served: with half and half, and three little, little teaspoons of sugar.
2. Joss was frustrated that people were not responding to Oz at first (“Possibly because he was usurping Xander’s rightful place as Willow’s paramour,” he says.”). He decided to add the scene in which Willow tries to make out with Oz in order to make Xander jealous in “Innocence.” (Oz declines, fully aware of the situation, and describes how he daydreams about her in class: “I’ll think about kissing you and then everything stops. It’s like, freeze frame. Willow kissage.” He wants to wait because “in my fantasy, when I’m kissing you… you’re kissing me.”) “I actually wrote that to make people fall in love with him. Literally [thought that] this scene will take care of the problem,” he explains. “That was the entirely cynical design of that scene.”
3. In the fifth season, the Buffy writers finally found the right story to take advantage of the fact that Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander, had a twin brother. Many ideas were pitched but “we would never just do evil twin, you know?,” Joss says. “I was thinking of Russian absurdist short stories, like Gogol’s ‘The Double’ and ‘The Nose.’ But what I was really trying to evoke was the time in your life when people start treating you like a grown-up and you didn’t realize that you were one. That’s what that was about.”
4. During construction on Joss and Kai’s home, the house was robbed and their computers and Joss’ guitars were taken. The biggest crime story in their Brentwood neighborhood, however, was when Nicole Brown Simpson, football star O.J.’s ex-wife, was killed in June 1994. The area was inundated with press covering the story, and after, Joss was often asked directions to the home by tourists. The media ascended once again in 1998 as the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. The father of the White House intern who had an affair with President Bill Clinton lived a few blocks down and reporters were camped out to get a quote from him about the national drama.
5. Jay Hunter, Much Ado About Nothing cinematographer, says that it’s possible to out-nerd Joss. “We were shooting a night exterior scene on Much Ado, and I was just chatting with AD and the gaffer and someone brought up Lord of the Rings. I started talking about these scenes that weren’t put in the movie and kind of going into this obscene amount of detail of my knowledge of The Lord of the Rings. Meanwhile, he walked out in the middle of it and stumbled on to the nerdiest conversation of all time. He said, ‘Oh, I can’t do this,’ then had to turn around and walk away.”

I find it so unfair that actors with serious projects have to go on talk shows and be funny. I don’t remember if there was a press tour/junket for Schindler’s list but there probably was and just *shudders*. It also weirds me out to see the transition too. They’re telling this funny anecdote, laughter all around then here’s a heart wrenching clip from this sad, sad movie.Clip plays. fade to black. Back to talk show host either looking somber and transition dates of the movie/repeat movie name or they make a joke about how serious the movie is. It’s AWFUL.
I suppose there is Charlie Rose but it doesn’t offer nearly enough exposure to make it a worthwhile interview.
And I love Fallon. I do. But sometimes I hate that you have to play these silly games. Wear ridiculous things in order to sell your movie. (oh God I sound about 100 now don’t I?)
And the interviews in general are just awkward. Not the talk shows always but the junkets and the red carpet interviews. Ugh.
I actually hate that they have to do press at all. That people won’t go see your movie unless they like the actor for some reason that has nothing to do with the movie or body of work. Just let them act. Just let them do their job and go home.
And that has been April rants about poor actors having to do press…
because out of all the injustices in the world….
Apparently this is the one bugging me enough to write about it.
