My name is Rivka. Today, I have only posted two pictures, both of them of me wearing a diklo. I would love to post photographs of my grandparents, but we have very few and they are all with my aunt.
We don’t have much of anything from before my family migrated to Britain and the US, because they chose to leave their belongings behind in order to flee gas chambers and slavery and crippling poverty.
When they arrived, they tried to hide their ethnicity as much as possible. My rroma relatives married English and Russian Jews in an effort to “breed out” our dark skin.
So here I am. A very pale Jewish Rroma woman, with nothing of her ancestors but a fierce pride in my culture and a ribbon that I use to tie up my diklo.
