We started off with 64 television twosomes duking it out to become the top TV couple, and after more than 2.4 million votes we are proud to announce that the winner of Zimbio’s second annual TV Couples March Madness Challenge is…
Supernatural’s Dean & Castiel (Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins), better known to legions of fans as Destiel! After getting knocked out during the Sweet 16 round of our competition last year, Destiel fans turned out in droves this year to propel their favorite “profound bond” all the way to the championship.
The demon hunter and his angel beat out powerhouse couples like Glee’s Brittany & Santana, New Girl’s Nick & Jess, and Lost Girl’s Lauren & Bo on their way to the top. They faced a very stiff battle in the finals against Once Upon a Time’s Rumplestiltskin & Belle, but in the end Dean & Castiel’s bond was unbeatable.
And so what if they aren’t technically a real couple on Supernatural? Dean & Castiel have (literally) been to hell and back for each other, and it doesn’t get much more epic than that. The devotion and understanding between the otherworldly duo has obviously struck a chord with fans, who left comment after comment on our March Madness bracket page about how much they love the pairing.
