It frightens me that Taylor Swift is seen as an image of female empowerment or “girl power”. Slamming every girl who ‘has it better’ than you do and accusing every guy who didn’t turn out to be your prince charming of being an awful person doesn’t make you honest, it makes you immature. You are not showing young girls how to be independent and strong, you are teaching young girls to sit in their room and focus on everyone they’re jealous of and every guy they can’t have. You are teaching young girls what “mean” is through a song where you are practically saying “I am better than you, you will never amount to anything”. You are saying it is okay to demonize other girls who get the things you want. You are saying it is okay to solely focus your life ON BOYS.

AMEN

so well put.

It frigthens me that someone thinks it’s okay to put down someone who gives another person strength. Sometimes you gotta write songs about boys and get annoyed about it but if you rise above it then you’re moving on. Everybody has their own journey FUCK RIGHT OFF just because you don’t understand theirs.

So here’s a few other things that horrible twat who dares to empower others has said

I wish all teenagers can filter through songs instead of turning to drugs and alcohol.
Taylor Swift

I’m not afraid to write my feelings in songs.

“There’s more to life than dating the boy on the football team.”

“Be that independent girl who didn’t need a boy, be that girl who never backed down”

“If you’re lucky enough to be different. Never change”
