5,000 march in Ireland for clearer abortion guidelines
Reuters: At least 5,000 people marched on the prime minister of Ireland’s offices on Saturday in response to the death of a 31-year-old Indian woman who died in an Irish hospital after doctors refused to give her an abortion.
Authorities are now investigating the death of Savita Halappanavar, who died of septicaemia after suffering a miscarriage.
Activists are calling for clearer abortion guidelines in the Catholic country. Currently Irish law doesn’t indicate when the threat to the mother’s health is significant enough to warrant an abortion.
