Though I know sometimes you simply need a character to be little more than a prop. I still felt bad when I and others did it. I wrote a little thing saying I didn’t think that Mary could be written well and cited ACD as a fine example of just that. But then the bitch shot Sherlock. So now I’m happily beta’ing a fic where Mary gets dropped in like the first chapter and I’m super okay with that.

I feel like the BBCOne Tumblr is trying too hard to make The Musketeers a thing (ready-made gifs etc). If it happens it happens. It should come from the fans and be boosted by the official account, not originate there. There was the same problem with Atlantis.

Um I feel like the BBCOne tumblr is doing their job….
Edit: I feel like this comes off rather rude when I didn’t mean to be rude as much as state something that felt very obvious to me.
The BBCOne tumblr (and other social media) account exists to publicize its shows. If they’re simply sitting there waiting for the fans to love something then whomever is running it is not doing their job. You may see it as “trying too hard” but it’s that person’s job to “try.”
Not every show is a hit from the get go and advertising is many times needed to get the word out. Also not everyone makes gifs either so sometimes it’s nice when they (official accounts) do it for you (especially if it’s a smaller fandom without a thousand people clamoring to make gifs).
I’m possibly sticking up for a giant here and I can admit that I do have friends that are social media specialists who are paid to run these types of accounts and it’s always a bit rude when people dismiss what they’re doing as “trying too hard” when it’s simply doing their job.

I once read “The ship chooses you.” But damn WTF was I thinking when I let it choose me?
Sometimes Johnlock is so fuckin painful. Jeez.
And I think it’s painful because it really, really, really could be real. They could go there. They really could. In this day and age YES there is still a lot of shit surrounding gay characters but they can work in a show and honestly they could make it similar to Bones. One day they’re just a couple and life goes on.
But Sherlock won’t go there. It’s illogical to think they would. For many, many,MANY reasons. One being that as a TV writer you don’t want to be known for writing THAT show. Because no matter what everyone says. It will no longer be known as Sherlock. It’ll be known as “That gay detectives show.”
And though I and many would be SUPER DOWN for writing that show…. at the end of the day we all choose our legacies for a variety of reasons.
But the annoying part of the whole thing is while they’re not making it real…they’re showing us a possibility of it. Although you can feel some queerbaiting element to it. I think it’s because they feel like
a) they’re giving us a little something,something and isn’t that enough?
b) it gives an interesting dynamic to the show that isn’t seen on others.
But this isn’t a meta or a complaint.
It’s just stupid whinge.
Because I’m old. old as balls. Kids these days with their canon ships! *shakes fist*
Back in my day you just lived with the fact that Xander and Buffy can’t ever get together. And okay they’d make maybe one joke about Spangel. And if we get Scully and Mulder together then we’ll keep them apart in other ways….
But ya know what? This is dumb.
Of course it will never be canon, canon. But there is fanfic.
Always fanfic.
Focus on the fanfic.
And done.
