2.2.15
In most of the country, you can still fire someone for being obese. And then when you’re unemployed, you’re likely to gain more weight, making it harder to find a job.

Shinsengumi AU
During the Bakumatsu period in Japan, there was a special police force founded in 1864 called the Shinsengumi. The Shinsengumi’s main purpose was to protect the Shogun and the bakufu government from various factions of rebels (loyalists) who sought to overthrow the bakufu. Many of them became the infamous “ronin-hunters” who patrolled the streets and countryside, looking to arrest loyalist ronin to keep them from carrying out actions that would lead to the overthrow of the bakufu.

Martin: I left my threeway to go and have my make up done with a bowl of porridge in me hand, slipped on some icy steps, and came down like a sack of spuds, and so I had to have that day off. This huge scene that Benedict then sort of, you had to do on your own? Or pretend other people were there?
Benedict: I did, yeah. I pretended you were there.
Mark: We did all that we could.
Benedict: We did the deduction. The close work around the actual trainer itself was done in isolation from the rest of the scene, which, obviously, Martin and I did later. A lot later.
Mark: We did it almost right at the end. It was so close.
Benedict: Although, not right at the end, ‘cause he’s still got his hair.
Martin: I did. I had my hair cut this day.
Benedict: But there’s a song in that, the way that you were describing it. Don’t you think?
Martin: Is there?
Benedict: Freeman fell out of his threeway on his way to…
Martin: Are you on drugs?
Benedict: (laughs) No, I genuinely think there is.
Martin: I’ll write it.-The Great Game DVD commentary (download)

There is always that hard line and confusion over watching something because it represents a better possibility/idea and watching something because it’s good. Right now it’s a confusing time with things like Fresh Off The Boat, Empire, and Agent Carter and I dunno…I just dunno.

Buffy - Season Five, Episode Seven: Fool For Love
Man, I love this episode. Not only is it a cross-over with Angel, but it also gives you a crash-course in William the Bloody. Spike is such an incredible and truly jaded character, so it’s nice to finally get some insight into his life pre-Sunnydale.
- William’s character is so believable when you really look at Spike. Spike might come off as a 100% punk rock badass, but we all know that he is one of the most sensitive and passionate characters on the show (not always a good thing). Having his human self be a sappy poet just makes sense.
- The costumes. Oh, god. William’s hair and glasses so completely change James Marsters’ face. It’s kind of incredible. And obviously Spike went through a Billy Idol/Sex Pistols faze in the late 70’s.
- While I totally admit to buying into the whole wounded-puppy-meets-bad-boy thing, I completely realize that Spike is not one of the “good” guys. I mean, this whole episode is him recounting his past spent killing Slayers for sport. And he fully intends to kill Buffy at the end. Not going through with it doesn’t excuse him from being this episode’s villain. Still, the “you’re beneath me” scene always kills me.
