No. it’s not reindeer. The Rudolph story just came about because I thought of the idea like weeks and weeks ago and then Gatiss chimed in with similar thoughts on the matter. And tonight I just needed to relax and figured I’d devote 30 minutes to writing it.

I didn’t know Audrey Hepburn grew old into a bomb-ass old lady until like, last year. I thought she died young cuz that’s the only pictures I’ve ever seen.

You know what bothers me about this every time this comes across my dash? That last condescending statement against basically all of humanity “and history remembers her as pretty.” As if being pretty is somehow vapid. That beauty is this fatuous little thing that should be cast aside. Beauty (in all its forms) inspires the world to create many a day. There is nothing silly about beauty.
And then there’s the rest “history remembers her.” Is that true really? History remembers her that way? Because I’ve read 2 biographies about Audrey Hepburn and that wasn’t what I read. Yes, she was a film and fashion icon but even on her fuckin wikipedia page it starts by saying she was an actress and a humanitarian. Instead of “history” let’s go with “some” because there are a lot of others who care about all that she was. Yes ,she was a beautiful woman who was a lovely actress and she helped people. She was also a mother. This (according to one look back at her life) was the thing she was most proud to be. Is that not amazing enough to be remembered? I didn’t see it up there mentioned in her list of ‘non silly being pretty accomplishments’. She was also a mother who raised two children.
And it seems so dismissive to just wash away her time as an actress that was greatly helped along by her being pretty. She got a big break because someone looked her pretty self and said ‘that’s the actress for gigi’. Audrey trained in theatre. She spent hours and hours learning and supplementing her training (even on set/during production) to ensure her performances.
She lived a life. Her life as an actress and her being pretty were a part of her life. There is absolutely no need to dismiss part of who she was because you don’t find value in it. As a fan of Audrey I remember her as many things including her beauty and heart.
And that’s all I have to say about that.

Edit: Also yeah I think it’s Vermont. Based on their stores, etc , the snow on the ground (most of ours has melted in ny) then Vermont makes the most sense and dammit I hate myself so much right fuckin now.

So I was cleaning my room the other day and I found some disks with some old artwork on them. On one of them was this old comic I drew and posted anonymously on 4chan back in 2009. I never signed it because I drew it in a rush to troll* the comics board (it was a few days before the film would come out and everyone was feeling very emotional about Watchmen) and I was just in the habit of posting doodles anonymously around then. There was a short thread, a few people reposted it for awhile, and then after the movie hype and Watchmen discussions died down I kinda forgot about it.
I found out a few years later that the thing kinda blew up on reddit and some other sites some time after that, and some people even wrote articles about it. Someone even drew an alternate happy ending lol.
It was pretty cool but kinda weird haha.
*When I say troll, it doesn’t mean I take any of the subjects represented here or in Watchmen lightly. I just mean I made it with the intent to cause extreme emotional impact.

I just want to say that this is why minority representation in the media matters. Mae Jemison was inspired to become an astronaut after watching Nichelle Nichols as Uhura on Star Trek.
Media is NEVER “just” media.
She also appeared in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that LeVar Burton directed, and Nichelle Nichols visited her on set. :)
